In the spring of 2017 finishing my senior year of high school, I began a photography project documenting the landscape of the rural areas around my family home. I set out to explore poverty in the modern era, as it gets more and more difficult to maintain a farm and agricultural lifestyle.
I was inspired by a photo essay by John Dominis for a 1960s edition of LIFE Magazine that gave the rest of the country a glimpse into the economic hardship in eastern Kentucky after the coal industry started to tank.
